West Tytherley

Parishes of West Tytherley, Buckholt and Frenchmoor

West Tytherley
Here you will find a good mixture of timber framed cottages, Victorian cottages and houses and more recent, mostly brick, types.

The church is brick and flint, and although not built until 1833, looks earlier Georgian. The Victorians altered the windows so that they were more in keeping and added the stone chancel. There is an unusual west gallery and a complex Purbeck marble font, early medieval, from the earlier church.

Buckholt
This has the Borough's smallest Parish population of 10 people. There are patches of woodland in this area which are remnants of Buckholt Forest, one of the hunting grounds of Saxon and Norman Kings. William I preferred more open woodland than Buckholt and turned his attention south, where he planted the New Forest.

Frenchmoor
At only 379 acres, this is the smallest Parish, by area, in Test Valley. In this Parish is the site of a deserted village. There is an old well in Frenchmoor called the Devil's Hole.
