Improvements to Woodley Cemetery

Works to extend Woodley Cemetery in Romsey commenced the week beginning Monday 9 September.  The extension will include a new road and footpaths.

The project will provide capacity in the cemetery for years to come and will be expanded to incorporate the adjacent former pony grazing area owned by the authority.  The new layout will enable a one-way road system to be created around the grounds resulting in less congestion for visitors.  It is expected that work will take around eight weeks to complete.

This initial work will be followed by a comprehensive landscaping scheme including extensive tree planting which will be carried out during winter 2013 and spring 2014.

Councillor Tony Ward, Portfolio Holder for Community and Leisure, said: “I look forward to seeing the results of the enhancement work which will improve the site and ensure its continued use for years to come.  All work will be undertaken sensitively and completed as soon as possible.”
