Fly Tipped Asbestos in Chilworth
Press Release: 29/07/2011
On 21 July, a large amount of asbestos sheeting was fly tipped at Roman Road in Chilworth, close to the M27 road bridge. Test Valley Borough Council’s Environmental Enforcement Team would like to know if any local residents witnessed the fly-tipping incident, or know of any local businesses that may have recently disposed of a large amount of cement bonded asbestos including 20 corrugated roofing sheets.
Meanwhile, approximately 60 tyres were also recently fly tipped in a National Trust car park in Back Lane, Mottisfont. The tyres were unusual as they appeared to have all been cut to remove them from their wheels.
If you witnessed either of these incidents or know of any useful information, please contact the Council’s Environmental Service on 01264 368000. Any communications will be treated in strict confidence. All reported fly-tipping incidents are followed up with a view to prosecution, with the maximum penalty currently £50,000 and/or imprisonment.
