Diamond Jubilee Street Parties

Press Release: 13/02/2012

Celebratory Street Party

Street parties to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee are being planned all around the country. In Test Valley, the Council has simplified the process to close quiet residential roads to help neighbourhood communities organise their own celebrations.

Any community group wishing to hold a street party and close a road should apply to the Council by Friday 20 April 2012. There is no charge for the administration of temporary road closures for the Diamond Jubilee.

The Council also has a limited supply of signs that will need to be placed at each site. They will be made available, again at no cost, subject to them being returned undamaged.

Councillor Martin Hatley, the Council’s Planning and Transport Portfolio Holder, says “The Diamond Jubilee is a wonderful opportunity for neighbours to get together. Most of the parties will take place in local streets with very little traffic, so it’s sensible to make the process for closure as simple as possible. I am also pleased to be able to announce that we have agreed to waive all our normal fees for these road closures for this special occasion, as we did with last years royal wedding. Organisers will need to tell us when and where they plan to hold their party, along with some contact details and a description of what they want to do. We also need them to confirm that access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times and that signage will be used. If anything is unclear in the application we can get in touch and give advice if any further steps need to be taken”.
