Next Phase of Ladies Walk
Press Release: 22/02/2012
The next phase of work at Ladies Walk will begin on Monday 27 February 2012 when fencing will be erected around the meadows north of Dene Path.
The work will allow the meadows to be used for grazing cattle from May but pedestrian access will remain open following the works, via kissing gates located on frequently used pathways through the meadows.
Councillor Tony Ward, Portfolio Holder for Community & Leisure at Test Valley Borough Council said “One of the Council’s aims is to enhance and preserve our natural and built environment. Using cattle to graze the meadows will, over time, provide an excellent environment for a variety of plants which will support a whole host of insects and bird species. Through grazing, areas of shorter and longer grass are created which allows different species to develop, which is not possible using more conventional mowing”.
The work is being funded through an Environmental Stewardship Agreement awarded to Test Valley Borough Council by Natural England.
The work should last for approximately 10 days.
