Olympic Torch Relay road closures
Press Release: 04/07/2012
People living, working and travelling around Andover will have seen advance notices highlighting the roads that will be temporarily closed between 3pm and 5pm when the Olympic Torch Relay comes to town on Wednesday 11 July.
The roads involved are:
Charlton Road - between Western Avenue and Marlborough Street.
Marlborough Street
Upper High Street
Newbury Street - between Black Swan Yard and Upper High Street
High Street
Bridge Street
Western Avenue - between Waterloo Court and the access to Borden Gates Car Park
Western Road
Weyhill Road - between Western Road and East Portway.
It is anticipated that this will be the largest single gathering of people in Andover this year, resulting in the town and surrounding roads being busy. Crowds are likely to gather well in advance of the relay start time of 4.15pm to see the supporting attractions, so it is recommended that you plan your journey and your viewing point in advance of the day.
Local businesses and residents along the route should already have received details of the closures. This allows businesses to plan in advance to minimise any disruption to their business, staff and customers, and affected residents to make plans accordingly.
If you want to be a part of history in the making, right on our doorstep, then come along and show your support as the Olympic Flame is carried on its’ amazing journey across the British Isles.
