Proposals for Town Mills area of Andover
Residents are invited to take a first look at proposals to improve the area around Town Mills in Andover.
Hampshire County Council and Test Valley Borough Council will be exhibiting the proposals in Bridge Street on Thursday, 20 July and in the High Street on Saturday, 22 July. Residents will also be able to see the plans at the Four Fun Fridays events throughout August.
The proposals aim to encourage more people to walk in and around Andover by opening up the area and improving the pathways between the train station and the town centre. These include widened paths to provide more convenient access, new crossing areas, new street furniture and better signage. The plans also make space for people to sit and enjoy the great outdoors near the River Anton.
Leader of Test Valley Borough Council, Councillor Phil North, said: “This part of Andover has fantastic potential and I’m really keen to improve and develop the area. Lots of residents have told us that they’d like to make the river a bigger feature in the town at the Andover Vision meetings, so this is a great opportunity to get involved and have your say. I’d like to encourage as many people as possible to share their feedback on the draft plans.”
Hampshire County Council’s Executive Member for Environment and Transport, Councillor Rob Humby, said: “We’ve been working on proposals to make it easier and more attractive for people to walk along Town Mill and the park to the town centre. We are committed to working with Test Valley colleagues to support the development and improvement of the Town Centre in Andover, and this is a further example to add to the investments we have made to improve the environment, and make it easier to get around which supports local businesses. We’re keen to show people the proposals so they can find out more about the works.”
Following the event the proposals will be made available to view on the Hampshire County Council website.
