Family business continues to thrive in Romsey

A family-run business in Romsey continues to go from strength to strength and has now received the second instalment of an Independent Retailer Grant from Test Valley Borough Council.

John Lyster, his son Peter, wife Ann and daughter Jo opened J&P Family Butchers in October 2016 and completely refurbished the unit to convert the previously vacant space. John purchased brand new equipment, including a floor to ceiling chiller, and worked hard to grow the business following a career in the industry for 45 years.

Romsey Abbey ward member, Councillor Ian Richards, presented the cheque to John and said: “It wasn’t too long ago that I presented John with the first instalment of the Independent Retailer Grant so it’s really great to see the family now settled in and doing well in Romsey. I’d like to wish the Lyster family continued success.”

John added: “We are doing well here in Romsey and I’d like to thank the customers for their ongoing support. We also really appreciate the grant from the Council which helped us to get up and running.”

Recipients of the £1,000 grant receive £500 after three months of trading and a further £500 six months later. To be eligible for the grant, new or existing independent businesses must occupy a town centre ground floor unit which has been vacant for at least one month. Qualifying businesses include shops, restaurants and cafes.
