Discretionary Housing Payment

Discretionary Housing Payments (DHP) can be made to top up your housing benefit award. You must already be receiving housing benefit and you will need to complete a separate application form. You can download a Discretionary housing payment application form using the link at the bottom of the page or obtain one in the following ways;

You will need to give details of the financial hardship you have after your housing benefit has been awarded. We will need to see proof of this, for example, proof of other debts or the circumstances that give hardship.

The award is intended to give extra financial help in the short term. The Council will decide how much and for what period of time payments will be made and this will be based on your current circumstances.  At the end of the award period you may make a further application if you wish. You can obtain further details regarding Discretionary Housing Payments from the Council's policy document using the link below.
