Many noise problems can be dealt with by the Council in a similar manner to other nuisance problems. Under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, noise emitted from premises and noise from vehicles, machinery and equipment in the street are categories of nuisance problem that can be dealt with by the Council. Certain types of noise problems are not covered by any noise control legislation, for example road traffic, trains, aircraft and noise from military premises.
