What is affordable housing?

Affordable housing is housing that is available for people whose income level means that they are unable to access housing locally on the open market. This includes homes for rent and shared ownership (part rent part buy). Housing of this type is usually built with the help of a grant from either Test Valley Borough Council or the Homes and Community Agency - or both.

Who can apply for affordable housing?

Hampshire Home Choice is open to everyone, with the exception of some people who are subject to immigration control.

How can I apply for affordable housing for rent?

You need to be registered with Hampshire Home Choice, Test Valley's choice-based lettings scheme.  You only need to apply here to be able to be considered for any affordable home to rent that becomes available in Test Valley.  You do not need to apply to the individual RSLs.

Once you have registered with Hampshire Home Choice, you will receive a letter detailing your points on the register and you will be told how you must 'bid' for properties to be considered for any vacancies.
