We use the orange tag to communicate with residents. The tag will be used to inform of a bin or sack that is contaminated or too heavy. We also use it if excess or side waste is presented for collection or if a property has not subscribed to the service. If you have had an orange tag put on your bin or sack and wish to discuss it further, contact customer services on 01264 368000 or 01794 527700.
The Garden Waste Collection Service automatically renews each year. Shortly before your subscription is due to end, you will receive a Direct Debit confirmation letter or a renewal invoice - by email or post. This will be based on your existing year's subscription. For more information on renewing your subscription, click here: Garden Waste Collection Service.
Collections are suspended for a two week period for the Christmas and New Year weeks.
If you do produce any additional garden waste during this period, see the alternative disposal options below.
We will collect your real Christmas tree as part of the Garden Waste Collection Service, just put it out next to your garden waste sack/bin on your collection day. You only need to cut your tree in half if it's over 6 ft. Alternatively, we also provide real Christmas tree collection points throughout the borough during this season.
Garden waste cannot be put in your black or brown wheeled bins. However, there are a number of alternatives, if you do not want to join the Garden Waste Collection Service.
Home Composting is the best solution for garden and kitchen vegetable waste as it avoids the financial and environmental cost of transporting waste to other sites. Your garden will also benefit from the free, organic compost that will be generated. Home composters can be purchased at a reduced cost through the WRAP Home Composting Scheme.
Take your garden waste free of charge to the Household Waste Recycling Centres at Casbrook (Bunny Lane), Timsbury, Scott Close, Walworth Business Park, Andover or Stoney Croft Rise, Chandlers Ford, Eastleigh. Material received at these sites is also composted.
Contact the Council to arrange a one-off Bulky Waste Collection. There is a minimum charge of £33.00 for garden waste.
Hire a skip (for larger amounts). The Council does not provide this service. Please make sure that anyone carrying out gardening work at your property takes away any waste they produce and is licenced to do so.
Do not be tempted to fly tip any waste. Fly tipping (unlawful dumping) of waste is illegal and carries a fine of up to £50,000 upon conviction.
