At Test Valley Borough Council we value the contribution of our employees to the delivery of high quality services for residents. In return, we offer a selection of benefits for employees to enjoy.
Competitive rates of pay
All of our jobs are graded using the Hay Job Evaluation Scheme and all jobs are given a grade which corresponds to the Council’s pay scales. If you are interested in applying for one of our jobs the grade will be clearly marked on the job advert and the job description.
We are all aware of how important it is to save for our retirement. All permanent and temporary employees aged between 16 and 75 who work for us for longer than three months are automatically enrolled into the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). We deduct monthly contributions from your salary and at the same time, the Council makes a monthly contribution for you too.
The pension scheme is administered by Hampshire County Council (HCC). For further information on the scheme, please visit HCC's webpages.
The Council offers all staff generous annual leave entitlements. Your annual leave is based on your grade and the number of years of continuous service you have in Local Government.
|Grade||Basic||After 5 years||After 10 years||After 15 years|
|1 - 8||24 days||28 days||30 days||32 days|
|9 - SM3||26 days||29 days||31 days||34 days|
|28 days||31 days||33 days||36 days|
Part-time employees receive a pro-rata amount of annual leave and statutory days.
Where service needs permit, we offer different ways of working to help meet the needs of employees who want to achieve a better balance between their work and other priorities, e.g. caring for children or elderly parents. We employ both full and part time employees and where working arrangements permit, flexible working hours are available.
Salary sacrifice schemes
Through this scheme, working parents can opt to exchange part of their salary for childcare vouchers. Exempt from tax and NI contributions, childcare vouchers are used to pay for any form of registered or approved childcare, including nurseries, nannies and before and after school clubs. Under the scheme, parents are able to save up to £1196 per year on their childcare, (subject to individual circumstances), by requesting up to £243 per month in vouchers. Further information on the scheme and how to join up can be obtained from our scheme provider, Computershare Voucher Services.
To help reduce environmental pollution and promote healthier lifestyles, we operate a tax-free cycle scheme. The cost of a new bicycle and any associated safety equipment will be exempt from both income tax and NI deductions. We operate this scheme through ‘Cyclescheme’.
Free car parking
Free car parking is available when you are working at the main council offices.
