Building Control Manager

£40,586 - £49,561
Relocation expenses will be considered

Test Valley Borough Council is certainly making an impression. You might be surprised that, in this age of austerity, our Corporate Plan is themed around “Investing in Test Valley”. Our ambition to be an investing Council is about more than money – it is about devoting our energy, skills, and resources to achieve the best results for our residents and communities across the borough.
We were a finalist in the MJ Awards Local Authority of the Year category and we think the judge’s comments speak for themselves:
“Test Valley’s submission demonstrates it is pushing the boundaries by going beyond the traditional remit of a district council to deliver innovative solutions against its ambitious agenda in terms of place shaping, inward investment, commercial partnerships and economic growth”.
We would like to recruit a Building Control Manager who will help us to build on our success.
This role offers the opportunity to lead the Council’s Building Consultancy team and play a key role as part of the Planning and Building Departmental Management Team. This is an opportunity for you to prove your leadership skills and share your fresh thinking in an organisation that is ready to help you make an impact.
We are looking for a dynamic and forward thinking individual with a strong track record of delivering quality building control services. With a professional qualification, you will have strong interpersonal skills and a corporate mindset, enabling you to build emotionally intelligent relationships both internally and externally, at different organisational levels.
Your technical expertise will mean that you will be the lead officer for the Council on building control matters. Your expertise will be complemented by your ambition and creativity.
For an informal discussion please contact Paul Jackson, Head of Planning and Building on 01264 368186.

Housing Options Officer

Maternity Cover - 37 Hours per week
Andover
From £21,090 up to £25,587 per annum

This is a great time to join a forward thinking and proactive housing team, working within an ambitious and forward thinking local authority!

The Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 commenced in April, and we are working through a process of change both procedurally and culturally, for the new statutory framework.

We are rethinking our approach to working with people. With a new emphasis on assessing people’s skills and strengths along with their support needs and risk factors, we want to reframe our relationship with our customers.

Are you a dynamic, customer focused individual who thrives in a busy and challenging customer facing environment? If yes, then we’d love to hear from you.

You will undertake “asset based” assessments with customers, meeting people in the office and in their homes, with a view to understanding the person and identifying and agreeing steps that can be taken by both the Council and the customer, to prevent and tackle homelessness in sustainable and appropriate ways.

You will provide high quality advice and support to local residents, enabling them to retain their accommodation or secure alternative housing that is suitable for their needs.

The role includes assessing people under the new statutory homelessness framework and providing advice regarding the Council’s statutory duties to prevent and relieve homelessness. You will determine applications for assistance in accordance with all relevant legal requirements. You will also provide advice about the Housing Register, accessing temporary accommodation, and support people to secure private rented sector accommodation. Full training on the job will be provided.

This is a wide ranging role that will bring you into contact with a generic client group, and require partnership working with a range of other agencies and organisations across the statutory and voluntary sectors. In light of the huge changes to local authority obligations around homelessness, and new approaches we are developing, this is a good time to join the team.

Whilst we are open minded about relevant previous experience, a passion for helping customers, and a working knowledge of housing, landlord and tenant legislation, including issues such as protection from eviction and harassment, and welfare benefits, may be an advantage. Overall, however, your attitude may be the most important factor in securing this role.

In return, amongst the benefits we offer are the opportunity to join the Local Government defined benefits pension scheme, a minimum of 24 days holiday and public holidays, pro rata for hours worked, free car parking on site and am employee restaurant.

For an informal discussion please phone Barbara Ward, Senior Housing Options Officer, on 01264 368619.

For more information or an application form please visit our website. Alternatively you can contact our Human Resources Team on 01264 368106.
