New Universal Service Obligation for Broadband
From 20 March, homes and businesses across the UK will have a new legal right to a request a decent and affordable broadband service under the new Universal Service Obligation (USO) for broadband. This was legislated for in 2017 as a service that has at least 10 Mbps Download speed and 1 Mbps upload.
A high quality, affordable and robust broadband network is a priority for Test Valley Borough Council. The present emergency perfectly illustrates the need for us to be able to communicate effectively and as a predominantly rural authority there is a pressing need for better broadband provision across the borough. Therefore the Council welcomes the new Universal Service Obligation as an important step whilst we await the Government’s full fibre programme and has expressed its request to work with BT.
