Public Art Commission - Broadleaf Park, Rownhams

Public engagement

In February Nicola held two workshops at the Rownham’s Community Centre. Participants shared their ideas, memories and stories of the area, and had the chance to explore local heritage, including the ancient, coppiced woodland, tanner’s brook and the remains of a Roman road.

These were followed by a drop in workshop on the Broadleaf car park and an art table at Nursling and Rownhams May Fayre where residents once again got involved in inspiring the trail by taking part in interactive map and haiku poetry workshops with the artists.

Speaking about the May Fayre, Nicola said: “The feedback was all positive, mainly questions about when the trail will be installed and excitement about finding them on a dog walk! Lots of the people who have taken part in previous workshops came along too and saw the progress of the project which was lovely.”

Michael added: “As Nicola said, very positive feedback from those who came to our table. Both the Mayor and Mayoress of Test Valley also took time to chat for quite a while about the cultural offer and spoke very highly to the importance of the arts within the borough... very uplifting to hear.”

Nicola and Michael will also be working with the children at Rownham’s School in the next few months to gather local material and input into the trail.
