Competitive rates of pay

All of our jobs are graded using the Hay Job Evaluation Scheme and all jobs are given a grade which corresponds to the council’s pay scales. The Deputy Chief Executive post has been evaluated at Grade CO1/2.

Lease Car Scheme

It is a requirement of this role that you are able to travel within and outside the borough during the course of your employment.  This role comes with the option of a lease car up to the value of £3800 per year or a lease car cash alternative up to the value of £4180 per year.

Relocation Scheme

The council has a generous relocation scheme which will be offered to eligible, successful candidates.  The scheme offers a lodging allowance as well as support with the purchase or sale and purchase of a property.  For sale and purchase of a property relocation support offered is up to a value of £12,000.


We are all aware of how important it is to save for our retirement. All permanent and temporary employees aged between 16 and 75 who work for us for longer than three months are automatically enrolled into the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). We deduct monthly contributions from your salary and at the same time, the council makes a monthly contribution for you too.

The council offers all staff generous annual leave entitlements. Your annual leave is based on your grade and the number of years of continuous service you have in local government.

Training and Development

The council prides itself on being a learning organisation and is proactive in helping staff to develop their skills, knowledge, experience and professional qualifications to do their role to the best of their ability. 

Learning is provided in a variety of ways and will start with a comprehensive induction when you first joint the council. Each member of staff has their own annual Personal Development Plan and managers and staff work together during the year to ensure this learning takes place.

Effective leadership and management is crucial to the success of the council. A range of management and leadership support is available to more senior staff where strong leadership skills are needed. This is all underpinned by comprehensive coaching training for managers.

Working week

The normal working week is 37 hours, but this role is expected to undertake whatever duties are required and this may necessitate evening and weekend commitments. The salary scale for this post takes full account of the need for this level and pattern of working.

 Flexible and Agile Working

We aim to be a modern and progressive employer, one which supports its people to optimise their time and balance work with supporting their well-being and other aspects of their lives.

We offer a range of flexible and agile working options where roles allow. Agile working enables people who work in office roles to work in a flexible way, mixing their time working in the office with working at home or another agreed location. In some roles there may also be some flexibility on when you can work your contracted hours. The needs of the business and customers comes first and the ability to work in a flexible and/or agile way is dependent on your job role and the needs of customers, the wider team and the service you work in. Arrangements for agile working are flexible and may change over time as the needs of the role or service change.

Within this role there is flexibility for some agile working as agreed with your manager.
