Test Valley Borough Council Housing Development

Test Valley Borough Council has an important role to identify and understand housing need in the borough. Improving access to a decent home is a Corporate Plan Priority as housing affordability is a real issue for many people and in Test Valley we are working hard to deliver affordable homes to meet the needs of local people.

The Housing Strategy 2011-2015 undertook to deliver 798 affordable homes. For the lifetime of the strategy, this is how the completion figures look, year by year.

The agreed target was exceeded by the delivery of an additional 223 affordable homes for the life of the Housing Strategy.

The financial year 2015 – 2016, saw the number of affordable housing completions at 247 new affordable homes, once again exceeding the target and quite an achievement. Some of these new homes were for rent and some were shared ownership. There were 14 fully wheelchair compliant dwellings for those who are eligible and in need of adapted properties and 40 that were built to a larger standard, called ‘Lifetime Homes Standard’ allowing people to remain in their own homes into older age.

The Council are in the process of writing a new Housing Strategy 2016-2019 where new targets will be established to deliver 200 new affordable homes per year, for the lifetime of the strategy. A large number of homes are delivered via the large sites in Test Valley - please see the links at the bottom of the page.
