Grant for Skin Spa

Skin Spa receives funding

Romsey welcomed a new skin spa to town earlier this year and Test Valley Borough Council has now presented its owner with the first instalment of a £1,000 Independent Retailer Grant.

Kylee-Jayne Tyrrell opened Skin Spa in April after spending more than 25 years working in the industry. After working in salons she moved into education, training young beauticians at Eastleigh College and Bournemouth College, and also became an Examiner and Quality Assurer for a qualification-awarding body.

Kylee-Jayne said: "I am absolutely thrilled to be in receipt of the Independent Retailer Grant. The listed building I took over in Bell Street had been vacant for some time and it required extensive renovations and investment to make it into the beautiful space it is now. The salon is growing well with new staff now on board too. We absolutely love being in Romsey!"

Abbey ward member, Councillor Ian Richards, presented the cheque to Kylee-Jayne earlier this month. He said: “As a new business in the town it has already found the niche market for this particular therapy and Kylee has taken on another qualified employee. The business shows great promise and compliments Romsey's small businesses."

Recipients of the £1,000 grant receive £500 after three months of trading and a further £500 six months later. To be eligible for the grant, new or existing independent businesses must occupy a town centre ground floor unit which has been vacant for at least one month. Qualifying businesses include shops, restaurants and cafes.
