Four Fun Fridays starts next week!

The Four Fun Fridays free summer family festival will be returning to Andover next week.

Andover High Street will be transformed for the first four Fridays in August, from 11am to 3pm, with a fantastic programme of art installations, street theatre, creative workshops and performances for the whole family to enjoy.

Shoppers and visitors alike will be able to get involved in a huge variety of activities this year, all for free! The programme will include stories and activities from around the world and will introduce something new each week.

For the first event on Friday 3 August, the High Street will welcome visual artists, Urban Canvas, who will be returning to Andover to create an enormous chalk painting outside the Guildhall. There will be street theatre from Les Busketeers who come to lay siege to Andover. Andover Library will be promoting its summer reading challenge along with other fun activities on the day, and a face painter is set to join the fun each week to help add a touch of sparkle and colour.

Andover’s The Artroom will be hosting creative workshops to help to make fabulous fish and sea creatures. For the first time Four Fun Fridays will welcome Chapel Arts Studio artists with their Bus of Many Things. Artists James Aldridge, Dave Dixon and Ruth Facey will lead activities to create an interactive timeline of the town and postcards of Andover on board the Art Bus.

Community and Leisure Portfolio Holder, Councillor Tony Ward, said: “The Four Fun Fridays events have been incredibly successful in recent years. The idea resulted from feedback from local residents and businesses requesting more High Street events. It is set to be a great summer in Andover.”

The project is funded by Section 106 developer contributions from Andover Business Park for public art. It supports Test Valley Borough Council’s ambition to see public art involve, inspire and intrigue. Any local businesses interested in getting involved should contact Faye Perkins, arts officer, on 01264 368844.
