Over 50s club awarded Test Valley Borough Council Community Grant

Alamein’s Over 50s club has been awarded a Councillor Community Grant of £500 to support the club’s on-going running costs.

The Over 50s club, based at King Arthur’s Hall, was started almost five years ago. It offers regular events for older people, including quizzes, sing-a-longs, guest speakers and at least one trip out each year. Members meet on alternative Wednesdays, from 2.30 to 4pm, for a chat over tea and cake.

Alamein Ward Councillor, Tracey Preston, said: “We are delighted to support Alamein Over 50s club, which provides an excellent opportunity for local residents to get involved in a wide range of events.”

Alamein Over 50s club organiser, John Cockaday, added: “The grant will ensure that we can continue to have a varied programme of activities. We offer our members a varied social life while helping them to keep active, from taking part in a quiz to visiting a stately home.”

Test Valley Borough Council’s Councillor Community Grant scheme helps to fund community-led initiatives. Local councillors allocate funds to projects that they identify as meeting a need in the community, based on feedback and ideas from residents.
