Walk this way – consultation on new footpath
Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC) is to consult with local residents about the proposal to create a new footpath between Smannell and Augusta Park to better link the two areas.
The authority is working with Hampshire County Council to progress the plans and will launch a public consultation on Friday 25 May.
The proposed footpath will be constructed using an asphalt material with a natural coloured stone dressing to the surface, giving it a more rural appearance. It will be funded from Section 106 developer contributions and the New Homes Bonus
The purpose of the footpath is to connect the new and existing communities and provide a better link to facilities in both locations, including Smannell and Enham Church of England Primary School and The Oak pub. It will also offer improved access to the shops and community facilities on Augusta Park.
Andover Alamein ward councillor, Councillor Tracey Preston, said: “The new footpath will ensure that those walking between Smannell and Augusta Park can do so safely and it will also help to increase footfall for the local shops and services. We have been keen to deliver the new footpath for some time now but regrettably we have hit a number of stumbling blocks. Not to be deterred, we have continued to persevere and hopefully we will finally be in a position to deliver on our commitment to provide a safe link between the two areas very soon.
“We are keen for people to let us know their views on the proposal and so I would encourage local residents and businesses to respond to the consultation.”
The council will post a copy of the consultation to residents in Smannell and Little London. The consultation will close on Friday 22 June.
