Volunteers boosted in bid to help community with IT skills
Three volunteers helping the community to develop their IT skills have been boosted by a Councillor Community Grant from Test Valley Borough Council.
A £600 grant has been given to the volunteers who run free IT drop-in sessions at Nursling and Rownhams Village Hall.
The money will now go towards new equipment, after Chilworth, Nursling and Rownhams councillors selected the community sessions to receive the funds.
Randell McKay, David Smith and Hilary Smith collected the cheque from Chilworth, Nursling and Rownhams councillor Phil Bundy.
Councillor Bundy said: “The work that Randell, David and Hilary do to help those who aren’t necessarily familiar with IT skills is fantastic.
“They are a real asset to the community and I’m very pleased to be able to give them this boost in funding to help towards some new equipment for their sessions.”
The volunteers are on hand to offer help with computers, laptops and tablets, as well as helping out with job seeking, including CV advice.
Volunteer David Smith said: “All three of us are very grateful for the help from Test Valley Borough Council.
“Using IT today is, for many, an everyday occurrence, and we wanted to help our community with that as much as possible.”
The sessions are free of charge and take place on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month between 10am and 12pm.
