All the family can help to shape the future of Vigo Recreation Ground

This summer, Andover Vision is carrying out a community consultation to learn more about the use of Vigo Recreation Ground and review how the park can continue to serve the community in future.

As part of the consultation,  a series of drop-in creative workshops will take place next week. Families are encouraged to visit Vigo Recreation Ground on Thursday 12 and Friday 13 July at 10:30am- 12:30pm and 1:30pm- 3:30pm, where they can create collages from natural materials found in and around the park, make model lego parks and enjoy taking part in scavenger hunts.

Teams from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust and Test Valley Borough Council will also be on site during the two-day event, asking families to share their views about the park and its current offering.

The Vigo Recreation Ground, set on the fringe of the town centre, is a large grassed park, full of mature shrubs and leafy green trees. It also offers facilities such as a tennis court, children’s outdoor play area and is the home of the Andover Bowling Club.

The consultation, which has so far included a survey being made available on the Test Valley Borough Council website and pop-up events such a shop in the Chantry Centre, getting schools involved and speaking to different users of the recreation ground, aims to discover how the green space is currently being used and by whom. Local residents and business will also be asked about any changes they might like to see happen in future.

Feedback, comments and responses gathered from the survey and public events will be used to inform the future management of the space, to ensure it meets the needs of the local community.

To date over 400 surveys have been completed, to provide an in-depth look into views on the local area. Andover residents are being encouraged to share their thoughts by participating at one of the upcoming workshops or by taking the online survey.

The family focussed workshops will take place at the Vigo Recreation Ground on Thursday 12 August and Friday 13 August at 10:30am  - 12:30pm and 1:30pm- 3:30pm.
