Councillors join the community at Lockerley Christmas Fayre
Lockerley Village was full of festive cheer on Sunday 30 November as the annual Christmas Fayre brought residents together at Lockerley & East Dean Memorial Hall. Among the crowds was Test Valley Borough Councillor Alison Johnston, who spent the afternoon meeting stallholders, chatting with residents and lending her support to an event that means so much to the local community.
The fayre, which ran from 11am to 3pm, showcased a range of stalls featuring art, crafts and food from Lockerley and surrounding villages.
For Cllr Johnston, attending wasn’t just about enjoying the festivities – it was about listening, learning and connecting. She said; “Events like this are at the centre of village life. They give me the chance to speak directly with residents, hear what matters to them and support the businesses that keep our communities thriving.”
Her visit highlighted the council’s commitment to being present and engaged. By taking part, Councillor Johnston was able to see first-hand the opportunities and challenges facing local people – from the importance of supporting small businesses to the need for community spaces like the memorial hall.
The fayre also had a bigger purpose: raising funds for the hall itself. Proceeds will go towards future projects to keep the building at the centre of village life. Tara Madgwick, secretary of the hall, said; “Having Councillor Johnston here shows how much our councillors care. It’s not just words, it’s action. These events bring people together and help us keep the hall going for everyone.”
The Lockerley Christmas Fayre is one of many events held at the hall throughout the year. Councillor Johnston’s involvement reflects a wider commitment from Test Valley Borough Council to working alongside communities, celebrating local life and ensuring that every conversation helps make a difference.
