LeMieux's new office and distribution centre promotes sustainability, training and local job opportunities
LeMieux, Britain’s fastest-growing equestrian brand, is delighted to announce its new state-of-the-art, energy-efficient office, warehouse and distribution centre at Greenwood Farm in West Wellow.
Spanning an impressive 50,241 square feet, the office, warehouse and distribution centre is a testament to LeMieux’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. The site features an attenuation tank, holding over 1 million litres of water, to combat local flooding by releasing water into local streams at a controlled rate. With over 162 solar panels and the use of Utilising Kingspan Insulation, the building complex has seen a significant reduction of CO2 emissions and showcases LeMieux pledge to renewable energy. The implementation of 150% more EV charging points and improved breakout and dining areas for staff underlines LeMieux focus on employee well-being.
As part of the development journey, LeMieux teamed up with Test Valley Borough Council to create an Employment and Skills Plan (ESP) under the framework set by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB). These ESPs are all about ensuring that major developments bring positive education and employment opportunities to local residents. They focus on providing valuable training, creating new jobs, and offering helpful careers guidance.
The ESP required the site to actively recruit new entrants to the construction industry, provide enriching work experiences, support exciting careers events, and offer comprehensive training to their employees. Throughout the build, Wilten Construction proudly employed two enthusiastic apprentices, giving them invaluable hands-on experience working alongside skilled subcontractors. They successfully recruited a supply chain leader from another sector, significantly enhancing the team's expertise and leadership capabilities. Additionally, they provided an eager 17-year-old with four weeks of meaningful work experience, opening doors to a bright future in the construction industry.
“We are delighted with our new office and warehouse complex. As an important employer in the region, we take pride in providing an inspiring and safe work environment. The increased space and the growth of the brand will create even more jobs and career advancement opportunities for local residents. We recognise that the success of our organisation lies in the hard work of our employees. Their enthusiasm and commitment have made LeMieux a great place to work and helped make a positive impact on the community in which we operate.” Dan Mahoney, Managing Director, LeMieux
Jacquee Say, Customer Engagement Adviser from the CITB said, "LeMieux's commitment to the Employment and Skills Plan has been excellent. The training and job opportunities provided during this project have had a significant impact on the local workforce and community."
Blackwater ward Councillor Nick Adams-King from TVBC said, "This development is a great example of how businesses can work with local authorities to create positive outcomes for the community. LeMieux's new facility not only enhances the local economy but its build has also supported skills development in the key sector of construction "
At the final review of the ESP, CITB proudly presented LeMieux with a certificate to celebrate the remarkable achievement of the site in reaching National Skills Academy for Construction status. This milestone reflects the hard work and dedication of everyone involved, and it's a fantastic step forward for the entire team.
