Partial closures planned as Chantry Centre multi-storey car park work set to start next month

Work to maintain the Chantry Centre multi-storey car park is due to begin on Monday 3 November, with one to two floors closed at a time while contractors undertake routine repairs.

Test Valley Borough Council, which owns the building, will close floor 4A first and it is expected to be out of action for around two weeks, with floor 3A also closed for some of this period. The contractors will then work their way down, with floor 4 next in line.

Disabled spaces remain available on every other floor and the nearest alternative disabled spaces are at Town Mills short stay car park. When work is undertaken to L2A and L1A, the Shopmobility spaces on L1A will temporarily move to L3A.

All floors will be open on Sunday 9 November for the Remembrance Day parade and on 21 November for the Christmas light switch on event, to ensure the maximum number of spaces are available for attendees.

The work, which will ensure the concrete in the car park and the gaps that let it move and expand don’t get damaged, is expected to finish around the end of February 2026.

While it’s important the council carries out the maintenance, they have made sure that it doesn’t impact on the key events taking place in the town over the coming months. And though there is capacity in the authority’s car parks to accommodate the demand over the busier pre-Christmas period, they will pause work and reopen all floors on those dates when there will be a concentrated surge in demand.

The council is in direct contact with all season ticket holders to advise what to do while floor 1 is closed. If anyone has any questions, they can email the car park team on carparks@testvalley.gov.uk or call 01264 368000.
