Young people take the lead with Andover Anarchy youth festival

A youth-led music festival is set to take over The Lights in Andover this half-term – and it’s all thanks to a programme designed to give young people a voice in their community.

Andover Anarchy, taking place on Wednesday 29 October from 4pm to 9pm, is a free event for 11 to 18-year-olds. Created by young people, for young people, the festival will feature live punk bands, local talent, and a special guest performance.

The event is part of the Future Leaders and Decision Makers programme, delivered by Yellow Brick Road Projects and supported by Test Valley Borough Council. The council awarded a £10,000 revenue grant to help launch the programme and has worked closely with the charity to support its development and delivery – helping young people shape what matters to them.

Councillor Phil North, leader of Test Valley Borough Council, said; “This is a brilliant example of what happens when we invest in young people and give them the space to lead. This isn’t just a music festival – it’s a statement. It shows that when young people are trusted to take the reins, they create something bold, exciting and meaningful.”

Councillor Terese Swain, portfolio holder for community and leisure, added; “We’re proud to have supported the Future Leaders and Decision Makers programme from the start – not just through funding, but by working alongside Yellow Brick Road Projects to help bring young people’s ideas to life. This festival is a celebration of youth voice, creativity, and community spirit.”

The programme supports 15 to 18-year-olds across Andover to develop leadership skills and get involved in local decision-making. It’s part of the council’s wider commitment to community-led action and inclusive engagement.

Andover Anarchy is free to attend, with refreshments provided.
