Green Land Availability Assessment (GLAA) - Call for “Green” Project Sites

Test Valley Borough Council is issuing a Call for “Green” Project Sites as part of its ongoing attempts to promote the conservation, restoration and enhancement of priority habitats, ecological networks and the protection and recovery of priority species; improve the condition of the River Test and water quality in the Solent and Southampton Water; and identify and pursue opportunities for securing measurable net gains for biodiversity in line with National Planning Policy.

The reasons for undertaking this exercise

It is not always possible for new developments to achieve the necessary ecological enhancements required by National Planning Policy within a development site. Sometimes off-site mitigation projects will be an appropriate alternative in addition to on-site measures.

Therefore, we are inviting landowners and other interested parties to put forward project sites that could help deliver positive enhancement to the local environment, thus enabling development.

Sites considered appropriate by the Council could be eligible to be considered for funding from tariffs placed on developers to ensure their environmental obligations are met.

The GLAA only identifies sites which have been promoted to the Council, the inclusion of a site in the GLAA does not imply that the site is considered suitable for providing necessary ecological benefits.

The 8 week period will run from Friday 30 April 2021, the closing date for any submissions are 17:00 Friday 25 June 2021. This runs alongside the Call for SHELAA Sites, details of which can be found here: https://www.testvalley.gov.uk/planning-and-building/planningpolicy/evidence-base

All promoted sites will be made publically available. Individual personal details and land ownership details will be processed in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
