Community Asset Fund

Guidance for potential applicants

The Community Asset Fund is available to community groups and not-for-profit community organisations to help with the cost of acquiring new community assets or improving existing community assets. 

  • Who can apply? 
    • Not-for-profit community groups 

    • Charitable organisations 

    • Community buildings and asset management committees 

    • Community associations 

    • Parish and Town Councils 

    • Educational establishments (for community spaces only and not spaces exclusively used by the school) 

    • Faith buildings (for community spaces only and not spaces exclusively used for faith based activities or worship)

  • How much can be applied for? 

    Eligible organisations can apply for a grant of up to 50% of the total project cost, with the maximum award being £25,000. The minimum award if £2,000, therefore all projects must cost a total of £4,000 or more. 

  • When can I apply? 

    The Community Asset Fund will remain open until all the funds have been allocated. There are no deadlines and applications can be submitted at any time throughout the year, while funds last.  

  • How do I apply? 

    You must contact the Community Engagement Officer for your ward, to discuss your project and application before an application can be started.

  • What supporting documents are required? 

    Amongst other supporting documents, the following key documents are required:  

    1. Evidence of wider community support for your project. This might take the form of the results of a community consultation, a petition, social media campaign or a community plan that includes the project.  
    2. An organisational an environmental / sustainability policy or, if you don’t have one, an organisational statement on how you commit to being more sustainable as an organisation.  
    3. An environmental / sustainability policy could cover things like how you try to use resources (such as energy, fuels and water) more efficiently, ways to reduce waste and encourage reuse and recycling, and any opportunities to support biodiversity. • Constitution.  
    4. A copy of the latest audited or independently checked accounts or if you are a new group a projected budget for the first year together with bank statement.  
    5. Copies of three quotes to the same specification. Please indicate which quote your organisation has chosen for the work. The grant will normally be calculated based on the lowest quote.  
    6. A fully completed, signed and dated application form.
