Application guide
You can apply for social housing through Hampshire Home Choice. Hampshire Home Choice is a sub‑regional choice-based lettings scheme run by East Hampshire, Eastleigh, Havant, Test Valley and Winchester councils.
Test Valley Borough Council administers and oversees applications from people who would like to live in Test Valley. Through the scheme, you can view and bid for social housing.
What is social housing in Test Valley?
In Test Valley, social housing is generally provided by housing associations and focuses on affordable housing for rent.
Affordable housing for rent must meet all of the following conditions:
🏠 Affordable rents:
Rents are set in line with the Government’s policy for Social Rent or Affordable Rent, or are at least 20% below local market rents, including service charges where applicable.
🤝 Approved landlords:
Homes are owned and managed by a registered housing provider, unless they are part of a Build to Rent scheme.
📆 Long‑term affordability:
Homes are protected so they remain affordable for future eligible households, or any subsidy is recycled to support alternative affordable housing.
These homes help meet local housing needs by providing secure, good‑quality accommodation at affordable rent levels.
