The Cutting Edge receives grant
A new hair salon owner in Andover has received the first instalment of a £1,000 Independent Retailer Grant from Test Valley Borough Council.
With 26 years of hairdressing experience behind her, Nina Lund opened The Cutting Edge unisex salon at 45 High Street in September 2016. The new business offers all kinds of cutting and styling services from simple trims to brand new looks.
St Mary’s ward member, Councillor John Cockaday, presented the grant to Nina at the salon. He said: “Nina has worked very hard to open The Cutting Edge and it is a fantastic new addition to the high street. She has a great team of stylists and has built up a strong client base. I have no doubt that she will continue to make the new business a success.”
Nina added: “I’d like to thank Test Valley Borough Council for the grant. I have wanted to open my own salon for a long time now and I’m so pleased I did. It’s a tough job but definitely worth it. The Independent Retailer Grant scheme is brilliant for encouraging people like me to take the plunge and start their own business.”
Recipients of the £1,000 grant receive £500 after three months of trading and a further £500 six months later. To be eligible for the grant, new or existing independent businesses must occupy a town centre ground floor unit which has been vacant for at least one month. Qualifying businesses include shops, restaurants and hairdressers.
