New play parks open

Two new parks open in Valley Park

Children in Valley Park received a half term treat last month as two new play parks opened in time for the February school break.

Youngsters can climb, swing and slide from the colourful new equipment that has been fitted at Collins Close and Donnington Drive parks. Test Valley Borough Council installed the new equipment after consulting with local families to find out what type of play equipment they would like to see in their area.

The orange, green and yellow park at Collins Close is complete with frames to climb, ropes to clamber up and a brightly coloured hopscotch game to jump on. Donnington Park, fresh with a vibrant rainbow painted across the ground, also has exciting new equipment, a slide and a bucket swing to play on.

Valley Park ward members, Councillor Andrew Beesley and Councillor Alan Dowden, opened the park. Councillor Beesley said: “The refurbished parks look great. It was really important to us that we spoke to local families to find out what types of play equipment they wanted to see before we made plans. I am sure that the children in Valley Park will love the bright colours and will enjoy exploring the new equipment.”

Councillor Alan Dowden added: “Valley Park now has two parks that have been refurbished, which enhances the community feel for the area. The new equipment is fresh and modern and reflects the desires of local people.”

Both parks have been laid with a colourful, soft surface so that users can enjoy the equipment in a safe and secure environment.
