Tree planting at Picket Piece
Test Valley Borough Council has planted more than 90 trees in the Picket Piece housing development as part of its replacement tree planting scheme.
The Andover development is the latest area in Test Valley to benefit from the project which also saw 78 new trees planted across the south of the borough earlier this year. The scheme is aimed at replacing all trees that were felled or died during the course of the year.
The planting in Picket Piece is the second phase of planting for 2018 and forms part of the northern replacement tree planting scheme. Species have been selected for site conditions and include lime, oak, wild service tree and cherry.
Portfolio holder for community and leisure, Councillor Tony Ward said “Trees are an integral part of the landscape of Test Valley and the council is committed to ensuring that trees are managed and maintained throughout the borough. This is not only important for aesthetic benefits, but for health, environment and wildlife too.
“The council sees it as vital to preserve and replace trees across all areas of public spaces, gardens, parks and woodlands for all residents and visitors to Test Valley to enjoy, as part of the council’s continuous effort to improve our green spaces.”
