Just the ticket for Just for Kids
Children’s hairdressers, J4K (Just for Kids), received the first £500 instalment of Test Valley Borough Council’s £1,000 Independent Retailer Grant, marking a successful three months for the business. Andover (St Marys), ward member, Councillor John Cockaday presented the first £500 instalment to acknowledge the salon’s initial trading.
With 23 years in the business as a qualified hairdresser, Sharon Liquorish noticed a gap in the market which could be more carefully catered for, children’s hairdressing. With her new business she decided to focus on the younger generation, as many barbers and hair salons do not meet the needs of this age group. The salon provides a calming and relaxed environment with facilities including a sweetie shop, televisions, iPads and a colouring station.
Sharon Liquorish, owner of J4K at 76 High Street, Andover, said: “The response to J4K has been overwhelming. Thank you for the support from my loyal customers and to Test Valley Borough Council for the Independent Retailer Grant, which is a substantial amount to invest in my new business.”
Andover (St Marys), ward member, Councillor Cockaday said: “Sharon saw an opportunity to meet the needs of Andover’s younger residents and ran with it. I’m delighted to present this grant to High Street children’s hairdressers, J4K, on behalf of Test Valley Borough Council and I wish Sharon continued success.”
Recipients of the £1,000 grant receive £500 after three months of trading and a further £500 six months later. To be eligible for the grant, new or existing independent businesses must occupy a town centre ground floor unit which has been vacant for at least one month. Qualifying businesses include shops, restaurants and cafes.
