Council adds another five retail units to property portfolio

Test Valley Borough Council has purchased a block of five additional retail units in Andover High Street as part of its bid to revitalise the town centre.

The news comes as the council recently announced that it had purchased the Chantry Centre’s long leasehold from Aviva Investors. The five additional units, located in the upper High Street, back onto the Chantry Centre mall. Four units are occupied by Boots Opticians, Thomas Cook, British Heart Foundation and William Hill, with one unit recently vacated by Age Concern.

These properties will be joined with the Chantry Centre and Cultural Quarter on the adjacent site to provide an opportunity for a major town centre redevelopment.

The council continues to press ahead to create a masterplan for the whole of the town centre and recently published a tender for the project. The authority is committed to undertaking extensive public consultation as part of the masterplan process.
