Bringing the town together with new travel network
The Romsey Future partnership is encouraging friends and families to hop on their bikes and lace up their walking shoes to explore all the town has to offer after launching a new walking and cycling map.
Plans to connect Romsey’s historic sites, bustling town centre and the wider communities have now come a step closer.
From the Abbotswood development, through the historic town centre all the way down to the A27 travelling down to Southampton, a new walking and cycling map has been produced to promote a new, environmentally friendly way of travelling.
The map pin points iconic places such as the Tadburn Meadow Nature Reserve, War Memorial Park and Romsey Abbey, as well as suggested footpaths and cycle ways to access them, helping to link different communities together.
It also helps to identify cycle parking, shared walking and cycling paths and where links will be provided in the future. Copies can be accessed via the council’s offices on Church Street, Crosfield Hall and the Visitor Information Centre.
Romsey Future’s community transport lead, councillor Janet Burnage, said: “We want to encourage the public to come and enjoy our town and explore all the sights it has to offer. This map is just a small step in a bigger project to connect our communities via sustainable travel links.”
Chair of Romsey Future, councillor Nick Adams-King, added: “There are many hidden gems in Romsey and helping to bring them together piece by piece with a newly highlighted network of routes, pathways and open space is a great achievement.
“Many might not be aware of what routes are out there and being able to promote sustainable transport in this way is vital to the future success of our town.”
The network has been put together by the Romsey Future partnership together with support from Test Valley Borough Council.
