Fly-tipping prosecution
A man has been prosecuted after pleading guilty to failing in his duty of care when disposing of his waste in Andover last spring.
A suitcase, and bags of rubbish were discovered dumped on the verge of Barley Road, Andover by council officers at the end of May 2018.
Darren Bryant pleaded guilty at Winchester Crown Court on June 10 and was made to pay more than £350 in fines and costs after failing to ensure that his waste was removed and disposed of correctly.
Environmental portfolio holder, councillor Alison Johnston, said: “This was clearly a thoughtless act, with no regard for the environment. Most of the waste found could have been taken to the Andover Household Waste Recycling Centre, just minutes away.
“We all have a responsibility to recycle and dispose of our waste correctly.
“The council is committed to stamping down on this selfish and irresponsible crime and we will investigate every report that we receive to help keep our residents and wildlife safe.”
