Tree planting to remember Covid-19 pandemic
The borough of Test Valley is to join together to commemorate those who lost their lives during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Over the last 18 months, local and national restrictions have been in place due to the worldwide pandemic which has caused incredibly difficult times for communities up and down the country.
Now, Test Valley Borough Council, with support from parish councils across the borough, is to remember those who have passed away during the pandemic by taking part in a week of tree planting this autumn.
On October 30, the week of planting will begin alongside a memorial service held at St Mary’s Church in Andover. For the following week, trees will be planted by the borough and a number of parish councils in Test Valley.
Leader of Test Valley Borough Council, Phil North, said: “The last 18 months have been some of the most difficult of our generation, and have presented incredibly tough challenges for all of us. Sadly, many have lost their lives to this awful disease and it’s hugely important that we remember them in the right way.
“Throughout this pandemic, I have said how proud I am of the way that the borough has pulled together to help its communities, and those in need, the most. Volunteers have stepped up, groups have been created, all in the name of helping your neighbour.
“While that is an incredible positive to have come out of such an awful situation, we need to remember those who were not so fortunate. I hope that the week this autumn will serve as a poignant commemoration for those who have so terribly lost their lives.”
