Andover Window Wanderland teams up with local charity for March window ideas

After Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC) successfully launched Andover Window Wanderland last November, it has continued running the scheme on a smaller scale - encouraging people to decorate their windows each month to spread a little cheer in this lockdown world.

February was unsurprisingly themed around hearts and sharing some love, but March will have an unexpected twist as Andover Window Wanderland have teamed up with local charity Andover Twenty1, to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day on 21, March.

Andover Twenty1is a registered charity set up to support children with Down syndrome and their families, within 25 miles of Andover.

Drawing inspiration from the #lotsofsocks campaign, for the month of March Window Wanderland and Andover Twenty1 invite you to decorate your windows with wonderfully colourful and creative odd socks – real or imagined! To encourage everyone to take part, there will be a competition and those who come up with the most fun, colourful and creative odd sock displays will receive a £20 voucher from Canto Gelato!

Secretary of Andover Twenty1, Fiona Gamble, said: "Andover Twenty1 are thrilled to partner with Window Wanderland and Canto Gelato, we are excited to see the creative displays that the community will share. In these tough times it is great for everyone to come together and have fun while supporting the local Down’s syndrome Community."

World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) on 21 March, is a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012.

The date for WDSD was selected as the 21st day of the 3rd month to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.

Leader of the council, Councillor Phil North said: “The community spirit that shines out as individuals, neighbours and sometimes whole streets take part in decorating their windows is testament to the caring attitude that Test Valley residents have demonstrated time and again during the pandemic.  This is a fantastic opportunity to tap into that spirit whilst also supporting local charity, Andover Twenty1 and World Down Syndrome Day.”

To enter simply post your displays on the Andover Window Wanderland Facebook page no later than 22, March and use the hashtag #oddsocksforandovertwenty1. The winners will be decided by representatives of Andover Window Wanderland, Andover Twenty1 and Canto Gelato.
