Roman Ward Councillors support local dad’s group with community grant
A local Andover group that supports fathers and children to spend quality time together has been given a helping hand thanks to a £1,000 Councillor Community Grant from Test Valley Borough Councillors.
Roman Ward Councillors Kirsty North, Jason Sangster and Katie Brooks awarded the funding to Me and My Dad Club, a popular community group that runs every other Saturday morning at Spring Meadow Children’s Centre.
The grant, awarded in March, helped the group improve its facilities, including the purchase and installation of a new outdoor storage shed to help keep equipment safe and support the club’s continued growth.
Councillors Kirsty North and Jason Sangster visited the club on Saturday 11 May to see the improvements in action, meet the group’s members, and hear how the space is making a difference for local families. They were joined by Chairman Michael White, committee members and their children, who proudly showed off the new shed and shared more about the club’s activities.
Councillor Kirsty North said; “Me and My Dad Club is a brilliant example of grassroots community support in action. It’s about creating a warm, welcoming space for dads to bond with their children while also finding friendship and encouragement. We’re so pleased to have supported this project and to see the real, positive impact it’s having in the community.”
Councillor Jason Sangster added; “It was a pleasure to visit the club and meet the team behind it. What they’ve built is more than just a playgroup—it’s a lifeline for many local dads and children. Small grants like this go a long way in helping community organisations thrive, and we’re proud to be part of it.”
Dad of three and Chairman of the group, Michael White, said; “We’re incredibly grateful to our councillors for this funding - it’s made a real difference. The shed has allowed us to safely store equipment and grow what we offer to families. Our club is all about giving dads a friendly, relaxed place to connect with their children, meet other fathers, and just enjoy time together. Support like this helps us keep going and continue making a positive impact in our community.”
Me and My Dad Club was set up to provide a safe, inclusive space for fathers to spend quality time with their children while feeling understood and supported. Their sessions include toys, games, refreshments, community visitors, and occasional day trips—creating a welcoming environment that brings local families together.
