Test Valley Borough Council launches solar grants for firms on the borough’s business parks

Small and medium sized businesses in Test Valley’s business parks and industrial estates could be getting support with the costs of installing solar panels, thanks to a grant from Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC).

TVBC has dedicated £50k of its 2025-26 UK Shared Prosperity Fund allocation to providing solar grants.

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund is provided by the UK government for a range of priorities including the improvement of business sites and the promotion of clean energy.

Last year, the council refreshed its Climate Emergency Action Plan, setting out a plan of actions to help further reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the borough.

This new solar grant scheme recognises both the challenge of climate change and the difficulties that business owners have faced in recent years with energy costs.

Grants of 20% of project costs to a maximum of £5000 will be available to landlords, leaseholders, and occupiers of commercial premises on business parks to reduce the payback times of installing solar PV. All installations must be completed by March 2026.

Councillor Alison Johnston, portfolio holder for Climate Emergency and Countryside, said: “I’m delighted we can offer these grants as it is vital we support the businesses on our business parks as they take steps to reduce their emissions. These grants for solar panels are not just an investment in sustainability, they’re also an investment in our community’s future and I would encourage eligible businesses to get in touch to see how we can help them.”
