Romsey Male Voice Choir celebrates 30 years with support from councillor community grant
Romsey Male Voice Choir (RMVC) marked its 30th anniversary with a special concert at Romsey Abbey on 11 October, supported by a £1,000 councillor community grant from Test Valley Borough Council.
The amateur choir, founded in 1995, is open to all and doesn’t hold auditions, it welcomes people from all backgrounds, including those without musical experience. Their strapline ‘singing fun taken seriously’, reflects their commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive space for members and audiences alike.
The concert celebrated three decades of music-making and raised funds for local charities Romsey Young Carers and Youth in Romsey. It also gave young musicians from the area the chance to perform alongside the choir, helping to inspire the next generation.
RMVC approached Cupernham councillors after learning about the community grant scheme and the difference it can make to local groups.
Councillor Burnage, who attended the concert said: “Romsey Male Voice Choir is a brilliant example of how music brings people together. Their commitment to inclusion and wellbeing is clear, and it was a real pleasure to support their anniversary concert. The community grant scheme is here to help groups like RMVC continue to make a difference.”
The choir plays an active role in the community, promoting social, mental and physical wellbeing through music. Their members and supporters come from across the local area, and they’re proud to be part of Romsey’s cultural life.
