Solar grant helps power greener future at Thruxton Circuit

A major solar installation at Thruxton Circuit is helping cut carbon emissions and support a more sustainable future, thanks in part to a grant from Test Valley Borough Council.

Thruxton Circuit Ltd, the company that runs the aerodrome, received a £5,000 UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) solar grant, awarded by the council, towards a £134,000 solar project on a new block of aircraft hangars. The hangars will be rented out to private owners, who may go on to offer aircraft experiences out of Thruxton.

The installation is expected to save over 49 tonnes of carbon dioxide in its first year.

The solar panels form part of a wider energy plan for the site, as the business works towards reducing its environmental impact and improving long-term sustainability.

Alex Thistlethwayte, Managing Director of Thruxton Circuit Ltd, said: “We recognise our responsibility to minimise the effects of our activities on the climate both locally and globally and this installation marks the beginning of our efforts to do so. We hope to implement further initiatives in the near future."

Councillor Alison Johnston, portfolio holder for Climate Emergency, added: “This is a great example of how local businesses are acting on climate change.

“By investing in renewable energy, Thruxton Circuit is reducing its carbon footprint while also planning for a more sustainable future.

“We’re proud to support projects like this through our UKSPF solar grant, helping businesses cut emissions and manage rising energy costs.”
