New sign for Divine Glory Beauty and Spa supported by town centre grant

A new traditional shop sign has been installed at Divine Glory Beauty and Spa in Andover High Street, thanks to an Andover town centre frontage grant of just over £1100, awarded by Test Valley Borough Council.

Divine Glory Beauty and Spa opened at 89 High Street in August 2025, run by Kendian and Glen Hankey. The business offers a wide range of premium wigs, weaves, hair care, and grooming essentials for women, men and children. The business is also now offering hairdressing and barber services. The owners had previously traded from premises in Tidworth.

The shop is located in the Upper High Street in a Grade II* listed building, originally built in the fifteenth century as an inn by Winchester College. Because of the building’s historic status, the new sign needed to be carefully designed to ensure it was in keeping with the character of the property and the wider conservation area.

The town centre grant from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund contributed towards a traditional hand-painted timber sign, helping to improve the visibility of the business while respecting the historic setting of the building.

Owner, Kendian Hankey said: “We’re pleased to have a sign in place that suits both the shop and the building. The sign makes a real difference, helping us to stand out on the High Street, and we’re grateful for the support.”

Councillor Phil North, Leader of Test Valley Borough Council said: “Independent businesses play an important role in Andover town centre, and this grant has helped Divine Glory improve their premises. Small, practical improvements like this can make a big difference for businesses and help keep the High Street welcoming and easy to navigate.”

The Andover Town Centre and High Street Shop and Frontage Grant was developed by TVBC in collaboration with the Andover BID and Andover Town Council. Each project is led by the business, with the grant supporting improvements to enhance Andover town centre. This aligns with the wider regeneration plans for Andover, that include the new theatre and riverside park, aiming to increase footfall, supporting local businesses and helping to boost the local economy.

These town centre grants are funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The UK Shared Prosperity Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK investing in communities and place, supporting local business, and people and skills.
