Solar grant helps Romsey business power up and give back to the grid
A family-run business in Romsey is generating its own energy and giving surplus power back to the grid after receiving support from Test Valley Borough Council.
Cinergi, based on Romsey Industrial Estate, has installed solar panels on the roof of its new premises with the help of a £5,000 UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) solar grant from the council.
The company, which specialises in renewable energy installations, is now producing more electricity than it uses.
Any extra energy is fed back into the grid, helping to support the wider community.
Cinergi’s electric company vehicles can also be charged on-site using the power generated, cutting running costs and supporting the move to cleaner transport.
They have also installed a battery storage system which helps provide added resilience too. In the event of a power cut, it can continue to supply electricity to the business, helping it stay operational.
Dan Loveridge, Managing Director at Cinergi, said: “As a company that installs renewable technology, we see the impact solar has for businesses and homeowners every day. So, with the council’s support and the roof space available on our building, it was a no-brainer for us.
“Our own team completed the installation and now, even during grey days, we’ve been generating in excess of 300kWh - that’s enough electricity to power the average UK home for a month. It runs our building day-to-day, charges our employee's electric cars and still export energy back to the grid.
“Our battery storage system stores enough energy to see us through the night, meaning that we'll be completely self-powered for a month of the year. We strongly believe in the technology and are proud to practice what we preach in hope that it encourages more local businesses to see the long-term value of investing in renewable energy solutions such as solar PV & battery systems.”
Councillor Alison Johnston, portfolio holder for Climate Emergency, said: “We’re proud to support local businesses like Cinergi to invest in greener energy solutions.
“This project shows how businesses can reduce their costs, cut carbon emissions and build resilience, while also contributing to a more sustainable future for Test Valley.”
