Test Valley Borough Council extends scheme to improve Andover High Street and town centre frontages
Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC), in partnership with Andover BID and Andover Town Council, has confirmed the continuation of grant funding to support improvements to shop fronts and building frontages across Andover town centre.
The original £80,000 allocation from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund has now been fully committed, following strong demand and significant take-up from local businesses. As a result of the scheme’s success and the clear benefits being delivered, Test Valley Borough Council has agreed to set aside further funding to ensure the programme can continue.
The Andover Town Centre Frontage Grant Scheme has already helped numerous businesses and landlords invest in high-quality improvements, including refurbished shop fronts, new signage, and repairs to historic features. These changes are contributing to a more vibrant, attractive town centre.
The scheme recognises the important role that well-maintained and visually appealing premises play in boosting footfall, encouraging investment and strengthening pride in place. Feedback from both businesses and members of the public has been overwhelmingly positive, with many welcoming the visible improvements and the enhanced character of the high street.
Projects supported through the scheme so far include improvements to the Blue Cross charity shop, Go Fudge, Divine Glory Beauty & Spa, Sarvansh Global Link, J4K Children’s Hairdresser, and Andover Framing, where funding has helped improve shop fronts, and The Andover Tap received the grant to enhance accessibility and improve the outdoor space. There are more projects in the pipeline. Together, these changes are helping to create a more attractive and welcoming town centre for residents and visitors.
Grants of up to £12,500 remain available to eligible businesses and landlords within the town centre. Applicants are required to contribute to the overall cost of the works and will retain responsibility for ongoing maintenance. All proposals must meet agreed design standards to ensure improvements enhance the overall appearance of the town centre.
Leader of Test Valley Borough Council, Councillor Phil North, said: “High streets continue to face significant challenges, and it is vital that we invest in the places that matter most to our communities. This scheme has proven to be a real success, delivering visible improvements and supporting local businesses to invest in their premises. By committing further council funding, we are demonstrating how strongly we believe in Andover’s town centre and its future.”
The frontage improvement scheme complements wider regeneration initiatives currently underway in Andover, including major investment in cultural and public realm projects, all aimed at creating a more welcoming, vibrant and economically resilient town centre.
