Christmas and New Year 2026/27 Waste and Recycling Collections

The Christmas and New Year 2026/27 waste and recycling collection days are not available yet.

Don't forget you can always check online when your next household waste, recycling and food waste collections will take place. You can also check when we'll be collecting your garden waste if you subscribe to the Garden Waste Collection Service. To check when your bins are collected click here.

Excess waste
During the Christmas and new year period you often have more rubbish than usual, so you can place excess waste in a bag beside your black bin on your household waste collection day. Collection teams will only empty one black bin per property unless we have previously authorised extra bin capacity for your household.

Excess recyclables
We will collect recyclable materials in cardboard boxes left beside your brown bin on recycling weeks throughout the year. Please try to keep it as dry as possible.

Do not put gift wrap in the brown recycling bin. Most gift wrap is plastic film, foil or heavily over-printed, low grade paper. Used gift wrap is also often scrunched up and covered with sticky tape. Overall, it's not great for recycling, so please pop it in your black bin instead.

During the festive period, we will regularly monitor and empty the Local Recycling Centres.

The Household Waste Recycling Centres will be open apart from Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Excess food waste
For most households, one 23 litre kerbside caddy is enough capacity, as it is emptied weekly. However, if you feel your household needs an additional caddy, please contact Customer Services on 01264 368000 or 01794 527700. Please note, side or excess waste will not be collected at any time.

Recycling your real Christmas tree
We publish the details of our Christmas tree recycling sites in December. You can also pop your real Christmas trees out for collection with your garden waste if you've signed up to our Garden Waste Collection Service
